Course overview
The eating disorders bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder are both characterized by recurrent binge eating. In contrast to bulimia nervosa, individuals with binge eating disorder do not regularly use extreme forms of compensatory behaviors to prevent weight gain. This course explores two empirically-supported interventions for bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder: cognitive-behavioral therapy and interpersonal psychotherapy. Learning Objectives: * Review a description of bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder, including a definition of symptoms, onset, prevalence, and course. * Compare cognitive-behavioral therapy and interpersonal psychotherapy to various treatment alternatives. * Review a description of the important steps and techniques for each treatment intervention.
