Course overview

One of the most significant, and perhaps challenging, counseling populations over the next 20 years will be the elderly, and the study and practice of gerontology will increasingly come to the forefront of the mental health field. There are more people over the age of 65 alive today than during any other period in American history. The U.S. Census Bureau projects the number of older people will surpass the number of children within the next decade... and by the year 2030, adults 65 and older will more than double to over 92 million. In response to this increasing need, it is critical that mental health professionals be equipped to assist the elderly. This course offers helpful and practical insights for ongoing training for mental health professionals.
