Course overview

The empirically-validated treatment series focuses on psychosocial interventions, which are supported by research evidence, for various mental health conditions. Stress in varied forms is extremely common in dementia family caregivers. There is a strong consensus that caring for an elderly individual with cognitive impairment is associated with increased self-report of many psychological problems, such as depressive symptoms, high anxiety, and significant feelings of guilt and hopelessness toward the future. This course focuses on the use of psychoeducational programs in the treatment of caregiver distress. Learning Objectives: * Review a description of caregiver distress, including a definition of the disorder, prevalence, and the characteristics of caregivers. * Review the effectiveness of psychoeducational programs for distressed family caregivers. * Review a description of the important steps and techniques for coping with caregiving classes.
