This course synthesizes current research on the relationship between marital status and healthy behaviors, health status and longevity, mental health and substance use, health care access and utilization, and intergenerational health effects. It focuses on relevant U.S. studies that carefully address selection and causality and were published in peer-reviewed journals since 1990. Learning Objectives: 1. Evaluate the implications of the effects of marriage on health behaviors (i.e., alcohol and drug use, smoking, body weight, physical activity) 2.
