Learner Objectives: The UHMS Hyperbaric Skills and Emergency Management Course is designed to allow attendees the opportunity to learn and practice emergency management skills and decision making in a group environment. They will receive hands-on experience performing four or more case scenarios (Air Gas Embolism, Decompression Sickness, Diabetic Patient, COPD) by working in small groups to manage simulated patient emergencies to hone their medical decision making. They will then work in larger groups to demonstrate to their peers that they have gained knowledge and competence in the management of hyperbaric emergencies and come together for discussion and didactic lectures with our expert faculty panel. This course is a requirement for the UHMS Program for Advanced Training in Hyperbarics (PATH). Subject Matter: Introduction, Case Scenario: AGE patient, Case Scenario: DCS patient, Case Scenario: COPD patient, Case Scenario: Diabetes patient, Case Scenario: Faculty Demo, Hands-on chamber session, Panel Discussion, Competency checklist with faculty experts. Teaching Methods: Didactic lectures Hands-on competencies, Panel discussion, Question & Answer. Evaluation Methods: Evaluation is offered at the end of the program through the UHMS website, which evaluates the effectiveness of the meeting, speakers and that no bias was presented, and overall objectives were met.
