Domestic Violence Advocacy Fundamentals

Course overview

This three day core training on November 2, 9, and 16, 2022 provides foundational skills for advocates serving adult and child survivors of domestic violence. Topics include the history of the domestic violence movement; how systemic racism, sexism, ableism and other forms of discrimination create barreirs to serving marginalized groups; how diversity, equity, equality and implicit bias affect service delivery; ways to become more culturally responsive and inclusive; safety planning and strategies for risk management; danger and lethality assessments, legal remedies and the pros and cons of protection orders; Ohio's Crime Victim Compensation Program and much more. This is a hybrid training that requires 12 hours of online learning that should be completed prior to the 12 hours of live training. No partial credit is given.
