Course overview

The simple act of changing body position or shifting weight is something that is done without much thought. Individuals take this simple act for granted but for those who suffer from illness or injury, positioning can be impaired. This puts them at high risk for developing pressure injuries. These injuries are painful and can lead to further complications such as infection and even death. Pressure injuries can be prevented, and all members of the healthcare team play an important part in preventing them. This course discusses a person's risks for developing a pressure injury and the different stages of pressure injuries. It also discusses interventions to prevent pressure injuries from developing. Having a basic understanding of pressure injuries and how to prevent them from developing will improve the quality of a person's life. The goal of this course is to educate administrators and direct care workers in post-acute care settings on preventing pressure injuries.
