Tracking # 20-957532
Course overview
The pivotal role of the school nurse began in the early 1900s. School nursing quickly began to have an impact on children's learning and education through the recognition of preventable diseases, the introduction of mandatory immunizations, and the beginning of required school attendance. Progression of the role continued into the 20th Century with the inclusion of care for children with special needs, health and wellness screenings, and health education followed by the introduction of the standards and practices in the 21st Century and eventually with the adverse influences of Covid-19. This course will introduce and challenge the reader to learn about the changes and growth of school nursing knowledge and expertise in the delivery of pediatric and adolescent wellness care. The school nurse's role in advocacy and collaboration with other disciplines within the school and a partnership with families and community-based social service agencies will be discussed.
