Course overview

This course is a form of massage therapy that teaches participants to safely release fascial and muscular tension in the body. Functional assessments refer to postural problems and corrections working with myofascia in movement. This course is for the upper body to safely learn myofascial techniques for working with head, neck, upper back, shoulder girdle and chest. Restrictions in the soft tissue are addressed with hands-on techniques by the therapist in synergy with active movement by the client. This style of work teaches massage therapists how to conserve energy and use safe body mechanics and is within the scope of practice for massage therapists. This is an in-person Continuing Education Course.

Relevance of program: 

It is relevant to massage therapy because it is teaching massage therapists hands on skills working with fascia and muscles that are safe and within our scope of practice. Massage therapists do not diagnose, prescribe or treat medical illness or move osseous tissue. Massage is not a substitute for medical care. Proper draping and/or suitable clothing are always used to cover areas outside of our scope. 

The purpose is to teach course participants safe postural myofascial techniques and assessments, to know where to work or not to work, that can positively affect posture and reduce myofascial tension in the client’s body. 

The intent of this modality is to teach course participants to work with both the connective tissue fascia and muscles myo in a safe way, and to understand the role of fascia and its relation to the muscles in the body during movement.
