Child Abuse (BLS)

Course overview

Child abuse is the second leading cause of death in infants younger than 6 months old. It is important for all healthcare providers who care for children to be familiar with the different patterns of abuse and to be vigilant for recognizing scenarios that may be suspicious for child abuse. If child abuse is ever suspected, law enforcement should always be contacted. This lesson is designed to educate the EMS provider about the management of the potential child abuse patient.
