Course overview

This intermediate - level course contains twenty, 1-hour course modules which pertain to all areas of skin and wound care management for nursing and other healthcare providers. The content and learning objectives of this 20 contact hour comprehensive course is mapped to the Wound Care Certification examination process of the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy including anatomy and physiology of the skin, soft tissues and wound healing; skin and wound assessment and staging; bioburden principles and topical agents for wound care; evidenced-based intervention approaches such as debridement, negative pressure therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and nutrition; plan of care with skin and wound management among special populations such as diabetes, burns, lymphedema; roles and responsibilities of the interdisciplinary wound care team, which can include members from nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nutrition etc. and finally best practices of skin and wound care such as obtaining a comprehensive patient history, legal concepts to wound care practice and documentation.
