The goal of this 4 hr. course is to expand the knowledge of nurses and other health professionals who wish to learn about the use of biological weapons and agents in a potential bio-terrorist attack. Objectives include: being able to recognize the potential threat of the release of biological diseases/agents to the US population. Learners should also be able to describe categories of threats as classified by the CDC, and identify rationales for assignment of biological agents to these classifications. The potential of the agent as a biological weapon, epidemiology, clinical course and disease management for anthrax, botulism, plague, smallpox, tularemia, and viral hemorrhagic fever are included among potential threats.
