Implementation of Counseling Services in Florida's Schools

Course overview

Studies have suggested that implementing mental health services in schools provides early identification of mental health challenges, prevention programs, and other treatment options for underserved youth. The implementation of services offers opportunities for community health organizations, individual practices, and other agencies to develop an integrated, comprehensive collaboration in formulating evidence-based programs to support students' needs and develop skills in dealing with conflict, bullying, problem-solving, and the development of healthy relationships. This creates opportunities for family support and resources, early intervention services to formulate clinical groups: (grief, anger, anxiety, sadness), help identify early warning signs of mental health issues with students, and develop a referral process to ensure that all students have equal access to services and mental health supports. This may help build relationships to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health treatment. (Foster, et.al.,2005).
