This course examines the risk of substance abuse to adolescents stemming from inappropriate attachment using systems theory and family-based intervention. It includes: Behavior and Exchange Systems Therapy (BEST), attachment, discourse, trauma, loss, and enactment, attachment related predictors of addiction, the adolescent as proxy, referral and presenting problem, letter of invitation, rebuilding the family secure base, intersubjective regulation of affect, and integrating the narrative of loss and trauma
