Ethnicity, Values, and Value Conflicts of African American and White Social Service Professionals

Course overview

The course examines value conflicts and ethical dilemmas in social work. This study explores topics that may affect the professional relationship between social work and client. It includes the exploration of five groups of values, and several issues likely to come up in dealing with clients including, homosexuality, abortion, out of wedlock birth, euthanasia, and corporal punishment, among others, between African American and white social workers. It also deals with whether participants felt their values agreed with the social work profession.
