Course overview

Physical and occupational therapy professionals regularly treat patients with pulmonary disease as a primary or secondary diagnosis. To treat this population most effectively, clinicians must have a foundational knowledge of the pathophysiology of pulmonary disease and how to implement and modify interventions to maximize function. This course reviews the pathophysiology of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and addresses standardized outcome measures for assessment, treatment considerations and precautions, and evidence-based interventions. The impact of COVID-19 on patients with these pre-existing conditions is briefly discussed.
