At the conclusion of this course participants will be able to 1. Identify the acronym HIPAA. 2. Describe the purpose of HIPAA. 3. Explain the Privacy Rule & Security Rule. 4. Identify the acronym PHI, its purpose, and examples. 5. Identify when it is appropriate and not appropriate to discuss or share PHI. 6. Explain what to do in the event a HIPAA privacy and/or security breach were to occur. 7. Discuss the role of the healthcare provider when protecting patient privacy and confidentiality.
