Course overview

Small bowel obstruction (SBO), a partial or complete blockage of the small intestine, is the result of a variety of causes and risk factors. A SBO can quickly become a fatal diagnosis if not addressed timely. This is often the case for people within the intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) community because of a decreased ability to communicate pain or discomfort. This nursing round table will review the warning signs, possible treatments, and prevention strategies for reducing the occurrence and mortality of SBO.
