Course overview
Abuse, neglect, and exploitation have a costly impact on a person's physical and mental health. Older adults who have been abused have an increased risk of death. You are in a key position to notice signs of abuse and take action. It is your moral, ethical, and legal responsibility to protect the older adults in your care. This course teaches you how to recognize abuse, neglect, and exploitation and report suspicions of these actions. The goal of this course is to educate direct care workers in skilled nursing facilities and long-term care facilities on how to recognize, report, and prevent abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Unless otherwise stated, the content in this course is sourced from Appendix PP Guidance to Long-Term Care Surveyors published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (2022).
