Course overview

The goal of therapy for dementia patients is to maintain the patients independence and current cognitive abilities for as long as possible. It may involve physical therapy, cognitive therapy, occupational therapy, and other exercises depending on the diagnosis of the patient. This course discusses essential aspects of physical and occupational therapy interventions in the treatment of dementia and related disorders. It discusses the different treatment approaches for patients with dementia in different rehabilitation settings and how caregiver support affects hospital readmissions for patients in the home health setting with dementia.
