At the conclusion of this course the learner will be able to: Understand the legal requirements for a healthcare provider to assist residents with self-administration of medications Describe various methods to assist with self administration of medication Identify various medication abbreviations and medical terminology List common classifications of medication, and list common drugs in each class. Discuss the limited scope of practice for the healthcare provider under the Assistance with Self-Administered Medication Program as specified by state licensing regulations, Florida Statutes, and the Nurse Practice Act. Discuss the difference between over the counter medications and prescription medications Correctly interpret the information of pharmacy labels and prescriptions Name the 5 Rights of medication administration Demonstrate the correct documentation for medication administration and medication refusals Discuss universal precautions when administering medications Discuss procedures for administering medications via non-oral routes Describe what should happen when a medication error occurs
