This course discusses substance abuse treatment and prevention in racial, ethnic minorities, and sexual minority populations, using cultural interventions, computer technology and culturally grounded intervention among those with alcohol use, alcohol abuse and dependence. There is a dearth of substance abuse and alcohol research in these populations. The article includes: challenges in addressing prevention and treatment for minority populations, advances in understanding the treatment environment, matching and molding treatment interventions, point of sale intervention, family intervention, interventions for sexual minorities, and advances in pharmacologic treatment. This course is based on the article, (Advances in Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Interventions Among Racial, Ethnic, and Sexual Minority Populations created by Arthur W. Blume, Ph.D. et al in 2016.
