Course overview

This Interactive Webinar will present various theories of the Etiology of self-injurious behaviors which are significant in developing an appropriate client treatment plan. It will assist to identify and confirm pathological self-mutilation from socially acceptable self-mutilation behaviors. It will also explore the history of Religious and Culturally acceptable acts of self-mutilation. The presentation will address the multi-complexity of Self-Injurious behaviors in relation to individuals with Personality Disorders, Complex Trauma Substance Use Disorders, and other maladaptive behaviors providing a framework to develop individualized treatment plans, objectives, and goals for successful completion of treatment. It will also address the differences in interpretation of self-injurious behaviors within different cultural/ethnic groups and the difficulties it may present in treatment for the client and clinician.
