Course overview

Creative Arts Therapies have been in use in America for more than 75 years, but have evolved and expanded over the years. Most of the modalities have involved some form of art, poetry, dance, drama, and/or music as a therapeutic medium. In this workshop, an introduction to and overview of the various forms of creative arts used as therapeutic mediums will be presented, with a focus on a newer form of music-assisted therapy that was developed by Dr. Mathis (M.A.TH.I.S.) and involves music as a way to reach difficult clients and discuss topics that might otherwise be more of a challenge to address in treatment. Applications of this program with various disorders and clients will also be introduced.
