Course overview

Opioid use in pregnancy has escalated dramatically in recent years, paralleling the epidemic observed in the general population. Untreated SUDs during pregnancy pose increased risks for life-threatening health problems for mothers and their infants. This presentation will review the treatment of pregnant and parenting women with SUDs in the legal system, substance use treatment, and legislation. There will be an in-depth look at the treatment of neonatal abstinence syndrome or neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NAS/NOWS), past and present.
