Course overview

Relational cultural theory (RCT) is grounded in feminist theory and supports the notion that the chronic disconnection of humans causes suffering. RCT counselors believe clients must be understood within their contextual and sociocultural impacts on the well-being of clients. Cultivating growth and fostering relationships are critical to meeting the needs of our clients. Healing of clients presenting problems takes place within the context of mutual empathy and growth-fostering relationships. This webinar will outline the tenants of relational cultural theory, discuss the role of the counselor and client, outline treatment planning, and discuss specific techniques counselors can use in their clinical practice to integrate relational cultural theory.
