CHPN: Symptom Management of Life-Threatening Noncancer Related Conditions Part 1

Course overview

The Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) must demonstrate competency in identifying patterns of disease, treatments for life-limiting conditions, and palliation of symptoms. Nurses who achieve certification must understand the role of nonpharmacological and pharmacological interventions in palliative care, as well as important teaching points for patients and caregivers. Knowledge of common disease trajectories and treatments equip the palliative nurse to anticipate treatment failure and/or the need for palliation. Nurses who provide palliative care must be prepared to have ongoing goals-of-care discussions with patients and families. The goal of this course is to provide nurses in hospice and palliative care with knowledge of life-limiting conditions and symptom management.
