Tracheostomy and Ventilator Care in Pediatric Patients

Course overview

Children requiring tracheostomies and mechanical ventilation has become more common in both hospital and home settings. Clinicians must be skilled when caring for pediatric patients with tracheostomies and ventilators. Competencies include respiratory assessment, tracheostomy and ventilator care and maintenance, and emergency management of tracheostomies and ventilators. Nurses and respiratory therapists play a critical role, not only in caring for these children, but also preparing and supporting the family and other caregivers providing care to them.
