Course overview
Helping couples in relationship therapy to repair and heal ruptures requires that their nervous system be in a "settled-enough" state. When partners are angry, defensive, or emotionally shutdown, effective communication isn't possible and therapeutic momentum is stalled. Included in this presentation is how to use the natural workings of the autonomic nervous system to help couples engage more effectively with each other. The structure of a session and skilled, somatic interventions enable the therapeutic process to move forward. Body-based therapeutic strategies enable the therapist to help the couple to identify the true sources of distress, allow constructive solutions to emerge and repair the ruptures that have occurred.
