Course overview

This four day workshop presents participants the most innovative recently documented evidence based information about this population. The first two days are reserved for nonclinical professionals and teachers and clergy and community members and mental health professionals and social workers as well as medical professionals that have limited knowledge about Human Trafficking. These two days will equip participants with an understanding of what makes an individual vulnerable to human trafficking and understand the intersectionality of Human Trafficking deconstruct the meaning of choice in the context of trafficking and review the comprehensive and multidisciplinary wrap around services this population needs. The second module is much more clinical in nature. These last two days are reserved for graduate clinicians who counsel and engage survivors of sex trafficking in therapeutic relationships. Day three and four participants will receive an in depth understanding of trauma from a neurobiological trauma resolution and intervention stance. Participants will leave equipped with a greater understanding of how the neurobiology is a persons autobiography thus downloading every trauma as a blueprint into the nervous system which then leaves individuals vulnerable to further exploitation in the form of trafficking. Innovative techniques such as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Somatic Experiencing and Mindfulness and EMDR are presented and applied both experientially and theoretically. Guests will highlight the importance of working with this population from a trauma informed multidisciplinary team approach such as integrating drama and drumming, as well as body movement specialists.
