Occupational Therapy Laws and Rules

After completion of this course, occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants should be able to:

1. Understand and apply the provisions of the Occupational Therapy Practice Act (law) of the state of Louisiana.
2. Understand and apply the Board’s rules pertaining to the practice of occupational therapy.
3. Understand the requirements and responsibilities involved with collaborating with physicians and other practitioners regarding the treatment of patients.
4. Understand and apply the basic ethical guidelines underpinning the practice of occupational therapy in the state of Louisiana.
5. Know where to go and what to do in the case of an impaired professional whether self or other.
6. Understand the procedures the Board follows upon receiving a complaint about an occupational therapist.
7. Understand the investigation and adjudication processes if a complaint leads to a formal investigation.
