Introduction to Mechanical Ventilation of the Neonate

Course overview
This course, specifically designed for the respiratory therapist new to practice in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), will provide a basic understanding of neonatal invasive ventilation including the main characteristics, the common modes of ventilation, and evidence-based management strategies for best outcomes. The appropriate use of alarms and graphics will be also be discussed to maximize knowledge on safe and effective strategies. In this course, a neonate refers to a newborn baby up to 1 month of age. Strategies and disease processes common beyond this age point will not be discussed in this course.
