Course overview

Sarcopenia affects between 8% and 50% of adults over age 60 in communities throughout North America. It is annually responsible for a $19 billion burden on the healthcare industry. However, recent surveys reveal that the lay public and even healthcare practitioners are fairly unfamiliar with the condition and its effects on the human body. This course will define and investigate the causes of sarcopenia. It will also instruct healthcare practitioners, particularly in the field of rehabilitation, how to screen for and treat sarcopenia. To further influence our community health & wellness, the course will also review how we can prevent sarcopenia, reducing its impact on the economy and healthcare system.
