This course focuses on documentation related to skin ulcers, particularly pressure ulcers or pressure injuries and wound debridement, including the various types and stages of skin ulcers and treatments. It identifies the clinical indicators, associated conditions, and complications of skin ulcers that a clinical documentation improvement (CDI) or medical coding specialist must know to query providers for clarification of documentation to accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes. This course explains the criteria for assignment of present on admission (POA) indicators and how hospital-acquired pressure injuries may affect payment. The goal of this course is to teach CDI and medical coding specialists the documentation requirements related to skin ulcers and wound debridement.
