Alphabet Soup: Bettering Your Practice for the Needs of LGBTQ+ Patients
Tracking # 20-1004340
Course overview
As clinicians, we strive to provide care and build rapport that affirms the integrity and humanity of each of our patients. In this course, we will learn about how to make a clinical practice more welcoming to patients that are gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer and/or transgender. We will dive into how to treat patients in the LGBTQ+ community with the respect and dignity that they do not always receive in society at large. This class will explore common stereotypes and implicit biases about LGBTQ+ individuals and educate about the health disparities and barriers to care that the community faces. We'll also learn and practice the appropriate language to use when talking with/about patients of different sexual or gender identities, both in general conversation and as relates to their health history and care.
