Module 5: Postpartum and the Newborn

Course overview

Participants are provided with a framework for understanding both a normal and complex postpartum as well as Red Flags for referral to a primary care provider. A key principle here is that in many cases we may be the only point of contact our patients have with a healthcare provider until a 6-week postpartum visit, so acupuncturists need to be prepared to fill that role de facto. Module material covers immediate postpartum (3rd stage) concerns as well as common issues such as mood disorders, pelvic pain, cesarean section recovery and basic assistance for challenges with infant feeding.
