A Review of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Course overview

As one of the most commonly diagnosed gastrointestinal (GI) disorders in the U.S., it is important for healthcare providers to be familiar with the presentation and interventions available for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) (Patel & Shackelford, 2022). This course will review the etiology, pathophysiology, and diagnosis of IBS. It will also focus on the recommended dietary, pharmacological, and psychological interventions available for the management of the disease. The goal of this course is to educate the healthcare team in the acute care setting on irritable bowel syndrome.
