Course overview
This course builds on the concepts presented in Module 1, Palliative Nursing in Critical Care, and outlines general pain assessment and management strategies in critical care settings. Critical care nurses must use comprehensive pain assessment and management skills to alleviate pain and distress. Interdisciplinary team collaboration is imperative to address the many dimensions of pain using multidimensional approaches (e.g., pharmacologic, procedural interventions, and non-pharmacologic therapies), along with consultation with pain and addiction specialists, radiation oncologists, mental health professionals, rehabilitation therapists, integrative medicine experts, spiritual counselors, etc. The goal of this course is to provide nurses in critical care with knowledge of general pain management.
