Simplifying Sensory Diets with Visual Supports

Course overview

This FREE, 1-hour, view-on-demand, recorded webinar provides new and experienced sensory diet users with the information they need to begin using BrainWorks Sensory Diets successfully in home and classroom environments. Gwen reviews basic theory related to sensory modulation disorders and shares relevant research to ensure that you use an evidence-based approach to meet the needs of the kids you work with. Next, Rachel demonstrates using BrainWorks tools so you can get started making sensory diets with easy to implement visual supports. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) identify the three primary types of modulation disorders, (2) list three, evidence-based activities used to organize the nervous system, (3) describe treatment interventions that are used to increase, decrease and regulate arousal level in a variety of environments, and (4) identify the primary purpose of the types of visual tools used to create evidence-based sensory diets. This distance-learning, independent format is offered at 0.1 CEU, Introductory Level, OT Service Delivery, and targeted to introductory- to advanced-level OTs, COTAs, parents, and other professionals working with children with sensory processing disorders. The course instructors are Gwen Wild, MOT, OTR/L, and Rachel Harrington, COTA/L, AC. Gwen is an experienced occupational therapist specializing in the treatment of children and adolescents diagnosed with autism and sensory processing disorders. Gwen is the creator of BrainWorks sensory diet tools. Although selling the business in October 2020, she remains with Sensational Brain as the AOTA CE Administrator. Rachel is a pediatric occupational therapy assistant, passionate about sensory integration, primitive reflexes, and early intervention. She founded The Sensory Project, which shares simple sensory strategies and tips and handmade sensory tools on Etsy. Rachel works part-time with Harkla to create sensory-related content for parents and therapists through a podcast, courses, and more. In 2020, she purchased Sensational Brain, rebranded it, and expanded into new courses, products, and more.
