Course overview

This program will inform nurses about the history of bioethics in the United States including the impact of bioethics on the evolution of nursing concepts, such as independent nursing judgment and nursing advocacy for patients' rights. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to: discuss changes in medical decision making since 1940, explain the role of human experimentation in the United States during World War II, name two events that drew bioethics to medical decision making, and name the legislation that resulted from the Nancy Cruzan decision.
