Learn moreCourse overview
Oral motor skill development is key to feeding success. Oral motor skills build on one another, helping to progressively add more complex textures to a child's diet. This 2-hour, live, interactive webinar hosted by Zoom reviews oral motor skills obtained at each stage of development, starting with baby. Therapy tips and ideas to target specific skills are provided for each stage of development. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) identify oral motor skills required for feeding at early stages of development, (2) state the appropriate ages and background needed to upgrade a child's diet, (3) determine whether oral motor skill development is impacting feeding success, (4) list the functional impact oral motor deficits can have on feeding challenges, and (5) identify three therapy interventions used to advance oral motor skill development. This distance-learning, independent format is offered at 0.2 CEUs, Introductory Level, OT Service Delivery, and targeted to introductory- to intermediate-level OTs, COTAs, other pediatric professionals, and parents. The course instructor, McKenzie Hoffman, MA, CCC-SLP, started her career as a feeding therapist and has been practicing since 2012, working in various settings. She began her career at a pediatric outpatient clinic, where she started a feeding program and built a feeding team. Later, she moved to an outpatient setting in a children's hospital providing NICU follow-up services for babies and their families. Currently, she works in an inpatient setting at the same hospital working with families in the NICU and with pediatric inpatients. McKenzie strongly believes in collaboration, working alongside PTs and OTs using an early intervention team approach to help resolve feeding issues.
