Course overview

Therapists are faced with challenges to show the value of skilled treatment and justify therapy episodes of care. Traditional outcomes measures do not always help justify the expense and importance of skilled therapy. This course will review the importance of utilizing standardized testing and normative data in physical therapy treatment. Participants will review the reasons behind current emphasis on data such as gait speed and how it is a predictor of several important health markers. Finally, participants will be introduced to evidence-based techniques for improving gait speed. Participants will be challenged to utilize meaningful standardized testing and normative data with their patients. They will obtain a greater understanding about gait speed and its relevance. Participants will be shown practical ways of immediately applying these concepts to their practice.
