Laws and Rules for Louisiana Podiatrists

After completion of this course, podiatrists should be able to:

• Understand and apply the provisions of the Podiatry Practice Act (law) of the state of Louisiana
• Understand and apply the rules pertaining to the practice of podiatry, especially those pertaining to training, scope of practice and unprofessional conduct
• Understand the ramifications, requirements and responsibilities involved with collaborating with physicians on the treatment of patients
• Understand and apply the basic ethical guidelines underpinning the practice of podiatry in the state of Louisiana
• Know which podiatrists are qualified to perform a pre-operative history and physical examination
• Know where to go and what to do in the case of an impaired professional whether self or other
• Understand the procedures the board follows upon receiving a complaint about a podiatrist
• Understand the investigation and adjudication processes if a complaint leads to a formal investigation
