There is a workforce shortage of people entering the profession of histology and the specialized professions associated with it. Hospitals and doctor practices are having a difficult time finding and retaining qualified and skilled histology technicians, technologist, supervisors and managers. Recruiting qualified professional staff is an arduous task. A more difficult task is finding people interested in the histology profession. I decided to take a grassroots approach and go to local high schools and speak to both the students and teachers about what a rewarding profession- histotechnology is. In this presentation we will discuss how to go about doing this within your local community and how to generate interest from high schoolers. I will also give examples of how to approach community colleges that offer a STEM curriculum and let educators know what histology is and the technical component are. Camille has visited numerous high schools, vocational schools and has also visited a local pre-med high school club. Camille will share her experience and offer suggestions. Please bring your questions and we will do our best to guide you on how to start spreading the word about histology.
