Course overview

Professionals who work in health care are often confronted with ethical dilemmas with little time to think about an ethical decision making process. The abovequote speaks to the issue of the need to do more in this process than just consult a code of ethics. Certainly codes are a vital part of ethical decision making, however, this course will examine many of the other elements that compose good ethical practice. Several writers on this topic have suggested that an essential part of ethical decision-making involves self-reflection on the part of the therapist. To begin this process, please complete the following self-inventory. The purpose of this is to focus on some of the topics that will be discussed in this course and to provide an opportunity for reflection on personal values and beliefs regarding the helping relationship.
