Are you familiar with EMTALA Law as it applies to your healthcare facility? The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) was passed in 1986 to ensure public access to emergency services no matter the financial condition of the patient and was again updated in 2008 to clarify all hospital's obligations. Is your facility licensed by the state as an emergency provider? What are your obligations as a dedicated emergency department?
