Course overview

This course discusses neurological visual impairments and methods to support a child with visual challenges. The course is designed to give learners an understanding of frequently-encountered, neurologically-based visual impairments. The learner will be introduced to performing vision screenings, identifying and accessing resources for children with visual impairments, and implementing adaptations to help those with visual impairments thrive. These strategies will support children with delayed visual skills or eye impairments as well as children with complex needs and more significant vision impairments. Within each section, assistive technology considerations, supports and tools will be presented that can be used to support the visual learning needs of the child. The lessons included are: Introduction to Little Light House, Neurological Vision Impairments and Children with Complex Needs, Body Positioning, Strategies, Adaptations and Supports, Assistive Technology Tools, Daily Task Activity Scenarios and Recommended Interventions, and Investigating and Accessing School and Community Resources for the Visually Impaired. There are quizzes after each lesson and a final quiz at the end of the course. To receive a Certificate of Completion from Little Light House, a score 85 % or higher must be scored on the final quiz. The certificate will be issued after the learner completes the quizzes and the feedback form is submitted. Quiz completion is not required if one does not wish to receive a certificate.
