Understanding MOUD

Course overview

This training explores what is commonly called Medication Assisted Treatment," which is a changing terminology in the field. There is an overview of brain and behavior changes during active addiction to opioids. Participants will receive updated information about various forms of medications for opioid use disorders (MOUD), including the new medication Sublocade as well as the traditionally known methadone, buprenophine, and naltraxone. Lastly, the idea of harm reduction and it's purpose and methods are reviewed, and how harm reduction is a vital avenue for some who abuse opioids to reduce the likelihood of overdose deaths.
