Course overview

The purpose of this course is to review tasks that individuals, who do not have a license, such as the Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) and Home Health Aide (HHA) are allowed to assist and help individuals with their medications. Review the Rights of medication administration, laws relating to assisting with medicines, infection control principles related to assisting with medications, several route procedures, some age-related route and form considerations, medication dosage, proper storage, and disposal, the components of a complete Medication label, Physician order impact on assisting with medications, acceptable abbreviations, the meaning of acceptable abbreviations, use, side effects, adverse reactions, contraindications and implications of common medication classifications, issues related to medical and medication errors, various types and cause of errors, ways to avoid errors, importance of effective communication among the Health care team, and regulations in place to ensure patient safety.
