Self-Study | 2 CEs | This course is designed to provide an understanding of pharmacology and its role in mental health treatment. Students will explore the principles of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, the mechanism of action of commonly used psychotropic medications, and their therapeutic effects and side effects. Students will also examine the role of medication in the treatment of mental health disorders, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and substance use disorders. Course Objectives: Explain the basic principles of pharmacology. Analyze the therapeutic effects and side effects of psychotropic medications. Develop strategies for effective communication with patients about the benefits and risks of psychotropic medication use. Describe the mechanism of action of commonly used psychotropic medications, including antidepressants, antipsychotics, anxiolytics, and mood stabilizers. Evaluate the role of medication in the treatment of mental health disorders, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and substance use disorders.
